Brief overview
The time-controlled, automatic display of content such as videos and images on any number of different displays works as follows from a bird's eye view in the Digital Signage module: The NeuroomNet Digital Signage Player is installed on all displays to be controlled (or, more precisely, the computers, NUCs, Raspberry Pis etc. connected to them or providing the input) and the displays are created as ‘Digital Signage’ components in the Setup module and / or Digital Signage module (see Installation guide of NeuroomNet (software) Digital Signage Players). Specific playlists can now be compiled for the digital signage players in the NeuroomNet server. By a playlist in the NeuroomNet context, we mean a combination of
- a timeline, i.e. a complete daily programme (from 00:00 to 23:59) of media content to be played (often in the form of predefined media blocks): I.e. when exactly which content is played for how long
- a set of players that are assigned to the playlist (which can and will then play the content of the playlist)
- information on when exactly which layouts apply to the content to be played (possibly depending on the player used in the playlist) - also defined in the timeline, see 1. It should be noted that this definition of ‘playlist’ contains more than you might be used to from playlists in software mp3 players or similar: Playing a playlist x in NeuroomNet means playing predefined content (predefined media content in predefined layouts) from 00:00 to 23:59 on one day for predefined players (the players specified in the playlist). The specific players on which the media content is played are, so to speak, permanently integrated in the playlists and the playlists (generally) run for 24 hours.
The tabs at the top of the website offer the following functionality:
- Media files: In order to ultimately use media content in playlists, it must first be uploaded to the NeuroomNet server (uploading to the corresponding clients / digital signage players is done on-demand / on demand). This upload is described in this chapter.
- Media blocks: Media content such as images or films can be grouped into media blocks. A media block then corresponds to a predefined sequence of such media content and can be used in playlists (alongside individual media content).
- Players & Layouts: Digital signage players can be defined here and associated layouts and frames can be specified.
- Playlists & Timelines: The playlists can be defined in this tab, i.e. the time sequences of the media content can be defined for specific players.
- Playback calendar for playlists: Here you can distribute previously created playlists to weekdays or dates.
- Statistics: In the Statistics tab, you can view information on how often content has been played.
- Preview: Playlist content can be previewed live here (primarily for testing purposes).
- Ad-Hoc Playlist: With Ad-Hoc Playlists, playlists can be played directly and immediately on players (primarily for test purposes). Any running calendar programme is interrupted. The individual tabs and functionalities are presented in detail in the following chapters.
